Hey guys, welcome back to the Set Apart podcast. Today we're gonna dive into one of the most powerful topics when it comes to personal transformation, and that is your beliefs. Beliefs are literally everything because they shape your identity. And our identity drives everything that we do. The way you see yourself determines how you show up, determines what you'll tolerate, and even determines what you think is possible for your life. So your beliefs can either set you up for success or they can set you up for massive failure. And what most people don't realize about beliefs is that beliefs are not facts. They're simply feelings of certainty about something, strong feelings of certainty. So this means that most of what you believe is not necessarily objectively true, it's just what you've decided is true based on what you've experienced, what you've seen modeled, or what's been repeated to you enough times that it feels real. So for example, if you grew up around people who struggled financially, you might have formed the belief that money is hard to make. Now, is that a fact? No, it's just a belief that became a feeling of certainty, and that belief influences every choice you make. It'll influence how you save, how you spend, how you invest, and even the opportunities that you notice or ignore. I work with a lot of students who don't see or have access to a lot of money or a lot of success. And it's interesting when I work with them, because when I ask them about what they want for their future, they limit themselves based on their beliefs about what they think is possible. And because they haven't seen it modeled to them, they haven't seen success modeled to them, they limit themselves because they develop unconscious beliefs about their own ability to create success. So psychologically, beliefs are like filters. Your brain will always look for evidence to confirm what's there in terms of your beliefs. So if you believe "I'm bad with money," your brain will scan for proof of that. But if you believe, I'm learning to manage money wisely, your brain will begin to find evidence to back that instead. Your brain is your advocate. So if you believe something positive, your brain is gonna find evidence to support it. And same with negative. That's why change doesn't really start with doing more. It starts with believing differently because what you believe will directly impact and influence the choices you make. Before anything changes around you, something has to change within you. So today we're gonna talk about the three beliefs that are absolutely necessary for transformation to happen in your life. If you wanna see positive change happen in any area of your life, you have to take on these three beliefs.

So belief number one, something must change. Emphasis here on must, okay? This one is about urgency. There's a difference between wanting change and deciding that change must happen, that something must change. You'll know you've reached that point when staying the same feels more painful than the fear of doing something different. Now, our brains are wired for consistency and comfort. But if you can get yourself to experience enough pain with stagnancy, then you will begin to take on this belief, something must change. Sometimes God allows discomfort in our lives to wake us up because comfort never ever creates growth. Isaiah 43, 19 says,

"See, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up. Do you not perceive it?" God's always doing something new, but we have to reach to that place where we say, what was once acceptable is no longer acceptable. And I'm deciding that change is gonna happen now.

That is the holy discontent.

The moment you stop negotiating the version of yourself that keeps settling. Real change begins the moment that you decide that the old version of your life is no longer gonna work. So something must change, okay? Now, belief number two, something can change. Emphasis on can. There's an ability for it to change. Sometimes we get so stuck thinking that

Nothing can change that we get stuck in this place of hopelessness and I want to tell you right now that the change that you want can change I have that belief and I hope that you will take that on too. So this is the belief that gives birth to hope

but it's also the belief that many people struggle with, especially if they've never seen change modeled before. If no one in your family is healed, if no one in your family has built wealth or found peace or walked with God the way that you desire to, it can feel impossible to believe that you can be the one to initiate that change. That's where disempowering beliefs come from. When we see our family or the people closest to us,

We begin to develop beliefs like, you know, people like me don't change, or this is how I've always been, this is how I'm always gonna be, or I've tried before and I failed. But those beliefs again, are not facts. They're inherited limitations. And if you're not careful, you will build a future around somebody else's ceiling. You will build a future based on history.

rather than based on your vision. And sometimes the hardest thing you'll ever do is pave a way where a way has not been paved before. God often calls us to be the first, the first to heal, the first to break the cycle, or the first to build something new. And that's not easy. It takes courage to believe in something that you've never seen before. Luke 1.37 says,

for nothing will be impossible with God. So even if you think it's impossible, you get to decide today, and it's even backed here by scripture, that it is possible, especially when you have God on your side. Even when no one else has done it before you, you can be the first. You can be the one that others will point to one day and say, because she did it, or because he did it, I know I can now too.

And moving on to belief number three, I can change it. Now the emphasis here is on I, I can change it. This is where responsibility comes in. No one is coming to rescue you. Your parents are not, your pastor's not, a relationship will not, okay? God already gave you authority, but it's on you to use it. Philippians 4.13 says,

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Notice it doesn't say Christ will do all things for me. It says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. You are the vessel. You are the hands and feet. And that means you get to take your life into your own hands and partner with God in changing it.

You know, we spend so much of our lives waiting to be chosen or validated or saved when God's already saying, you are chosen, now move. You have to lead yourself first because ownership is the birthplace of freedom. Until you take ownership, you will always be a slave to the thing that you blame or the thing that you're waiting on. So you get to take ownership today.

So this week, I want you to take inventory of your own beliefs. create three lists, one that says, am,

The second one that says people are and the third one that says the world is and make a long list under each of those titles. All the things that you believe about yourself. I am all the things that you believe about other people. People are and all the things that you believe about the world. The world is make a long list for each one of those categories and take a good hard look at your list.

And I would invite you to cross out the beliefs that are not serving your vision and circle the beliefs that you want to strengthen that will get you to where you want to go.

So remember, something must change. That's your conviction. Something can change. That's your hope. And I can change it. That's your power. thanks for tuning in and I'll see you next time on the Set Apart Podcast.
